Mount Alexander Shire Council has been working through more than 200 requests for assistance following a severe thunderstorm in the shire last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The storm on Friday January 28 resulted in flooding and damage that impacted a large number of properties across the shire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council crews are responding to the high-volume of requests, and undertaking repairs to drainage, pathways and roads as part of the continued clean up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayor Bill Maltby thanked local emergency service teams and council officers for their swift response during the storms, and in their aftermath, and acknowledged that the severe weather event impacted many members of the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know this is a very stressful time and our thoughts are with everyone who\u2019s been impacted,” Cr Maltby said.

\u201cI\u2019d like to say a big thank you to everyone, emergency services and local residents, for their tireless work in keeping the community safe during the recent storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur teams are out in our community working through requests for help \u2013 clearing drains and pits, and working as fast as possible to clean up,\u201d he said.

\u201cWe encourage you to report any damage as a result of the storm, but please ask for your patience and understanding while we prioritise the work within our current resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Along with council, responders included Victorian State Emergency Service, Country Fire Authority, Victorian Police and Forest Fire Management Victoria.

Cr Maltby said the weather event had illustrated that it was important people had their emergency plan ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are still in the summer season and potential for fire, flood and storms remain a risk during this time of year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMake sure you have a list of emergency numbers and an emergency kit ready.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
