Throughout March, PETstock Gisborne and Castlemaine will once again host their annual National Pet Adoption Month \u2013 an initiative led by PETstock Assist \u2013 to help change the lives of local rescue pets in need of a permanent or temporary home, and of humans eagerly awaiting their paw-fect match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PETstock Gisborne will be helping to promote pooches at Great Dane Rescue and PETstock Castlemaine will be working to rehome animals for Mount Alexander Animal Welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PETstock Assist\u2019s charity and events lead, Jessica Curtis, said that after seven national adoption initiatives, it was important to review current trends within the landscape so we could continue, as a nation, to break the cycle of pet homelessness in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe pet adoption landscape changes rapidly, and this year we\u2019re seeing more cats available for adoption compared to other animals, closely followed by large dogs and bonded pairs \u2013 animals that have entered rescue together and need to be adopted together,\u201d Jessica said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As always, PETstock Assist is encouraging Australians to Adopt Different this March and shift their thinking towards how they can make more sustainable choices, remove unfair biases towards pet adoption and address the crisis at hand by considering a pet that is most in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGrowing your family to include an adopted cat, large dog or bonded pair will not only enrich your life, but also the life of the adopted pet by offering them a safe and loving environment to thrive in,\u201d Jessica said.

\u201cIf you\u2019re not able to adopt, there are several ways that you can help solve pet homelessness in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“By fostering or volunteering at your local rescue group, you\u2019re not only providing a safe place or care for an animal in need, but you\u2019re also creating space for stray animals seeking shelter,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Community members are encouraged to head into the Gisborne and Castlemaine stores on Saturday March 19 to learn more about local rescue pets available for adoption or fostering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
