The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for damaging winds developing about elevated terrain from this evening.<\/p>\n
A strong cold front will enter the west of the state late on Tuesday, bringing a vigorous north to northwesterly flow.<\/p>\n
Showers and thunderstorms are likely along the front, as well as in northwesterly winds in its wake.<\/p>\n
The front will continue to move east overnight, reaching the southeastern districts during Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Damaging winds averaging 65 km\/h with peak gusts of around 100km\/h are possible over the Grampians and parts of the central ranges from late Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Damaging winds are expected to extend east across the central and eastern ranges overnight on Tuesday and during Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Winds will be temporarily easing from the west during Wednesday afternoon, as another burst of vigorous winds could affect the state from late Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Locations that may be affected include Castlemaine and Kyneton.<\/p>\n
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:<\/p>\n
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.<\/p>\n
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.<\/p>\n
* Be aware \u2013 heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it’s windy or wet.<\/p>\n
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.<\/p>\n
* Stay indoors and away from windows.<\/p>\n
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.<\/p>\n
* Stay away from fallen powerlines \u2013 always assume they are live.<\/p>\n
