After another successful event in August, lovers of spoken word will gather again on September 10 for a musical themed Chamber Poets and to see featured performer, Lauren Lee Williams, who is both a noted poet and acclaimed singer.<\/p>\n
The August Chamber Poets featured Amanda Anastasi, whose work was centred on climate change, and Tru Dowling, whose verse novel was set in Castlemaine. They both read from their newly released books and enthralled the large, enthusiastic audience.<\/p>\n
“What a warm, open room of word-lovers, talented poets, musicians and performers,” Tru Dowling said of the event.<\/p>\n
“I was rapt to share my verse novel in such a responsive space, alongside the amazing Amanda Anastasi and a strong Open Section.<\/p>\n
“A great afternoon of thoughtful musing, catchy tunes, poetry and joy! I\u2019ll be back!”<\/p>\n
Chamber Poets has become quite a tourist attraction with 12 of the poets who read in the Open Section coming from 10 different towns, as well as five different Melbourne suburbs.<\/p>\n
Her first album, Union of Romantic Fools<\/em>, was released in 2010. She is a Tamworth Country Music Festival prize-winning songwriter, whose music is influenced by bluegrass, country and Cajun.<\/p>\n She is a popular poet who has written four books, including one by Penguin Books. Maldon resident Lauren Lee Williams will be the featured performer on September 10 and will preview songs from her forthcoming album, She Blew into Town<\/em>, which was recorded between lockdowns and is due for release soon.<\/p>\n
Williams was a major figure in the Melbourne poetry scene from the early 80s to mid-2000s, before she picked up a guitar and moved to central Victoria.<\/p>\n
Resident Chamber Poets band Black Forest Smoke will support Williams on the day with a handful of their quirky, eclectic compositions.<\/p>\n
Local singer\/songwriters are encouraged to come along and perform an original song in the Open Section and in this way the afternoon will be vibrant with both original poetry and original songs.<\/p>\n
