For World Kangaroo Day on October 24, local wildlife carers Nikki and Scott Medwell of Red Box Wildlife Shelter at Elphinstone are once again ccelebrating the Australian icon with a special prize giveaway.<\/p>\n


Express <\/em>readers can win a prize pack from our friends at Red Box Wildlife Shelter, which includes a beautiful print by photographer Tamara Kenneally, a unique poster by author and artist Trace Balla, two celebratory World Kangaroo Day coffee mugs, a kangaroo themed hot\/cold drink bottle, a kangaroo paint set, a wildlife-themed memory game, two wildlife assistance kits for your car and a copy of The Red Sands of Hattah<\/em> by Peter Preuss.<\/p>\n


The local couple’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, raise and release the roos that come into their care, along with teaching compassion for kangaroos.<\/p>\n


Nikki and Scott have also created the free online ‘Mr Boo’s Roo Rangers’ program and educational resources around the theme of their first rescue \u2013 their much-loved ‘Mr Boo’ \u2013 and aim to increase knowledge and awareness about the native animals they have come to know as gentle social creatures that travel in close-knit family groups. The Roo Rangers at Elphinstone Primary School and art teacher Katie Mawson have created a beautiful mural to celebrate World Kangaroo Day and this will be on display at the Visitor Information Centre at the historic Castlemaine Market Building this week in the lead up to the October 24 event.<\/p>\n


Red Box Wildlife Shelter is in dire need of more volunteers to help them continue their work.<\/p>\n


“We have a couple of great helpers but more are always needed. As we rehabilitate one animal another takes its place, the work is ongoing and more hands are always welcome to lighten the load. It’s incredibly rewarding to know you are making a difference,” Nikki said.<\/p>\n


More wildlife rescuers are also desperately needed in the Mount Alexander region.<\/p>\n
