Christmas at the Kyneton Farmers Market is the time to get ready for that big day. Whether it is gathering food and drinks for the table or gifts for those special people, there is something for everyone.<\/p>\n
Of special note is the panforte made by Elizabeth of Romagna 29 from her kitchen just outside of Kyneton.<\/p>\n
An Italian specialty thought to have originated in Siena, Italy, during the 13th century, panforte was the currency paid to monks and nuns as a tax due on the seventh day of February that year. As spices are among the ingredients, the panforte was considered to have value.<\/p>\n
When panforte was originally made it did not contain nuts, and when this addition was made some time later it became too expensive to produce and was therefore only made for special occasions, hence its association with Christmas.<\/p>\n
Elizabeth\u2019s panforte not only tastes delicious but comes wrapped in beautiful Florentine paper. It is also a seasoned postal traveller!<\/p>\n
As well as panforte you will find jams, chutneys and all sorts of dried goods to fill a hamper or unique gifts at the Makers Market, situated up the hill nearest the church.<\/p>\n
There will also be special gifts for the children \u2013 homemade bon bons and fruit \u2013 and stallholder vouchers for those who arrive early.<\/p>\n
The December Kyneton Farmers Market is on from 8.30am to 1pm this Saturday, December 10, at St Paul’s Park in Piper Street.<\/p>\n
