Former Tasmanian Australian of the Year, Rodney Croome, is coming to Kyneton this week as guest speaker at the final Birds of a Feather lunch for 2022.<\/p>\n
Rodney has been advocating for LGBTIQA+ human rights for over 30 years. He fronted the campaign to decriminalise homosexuality in Tasmania and was founder and national director of Australian Marriage Equality.<\/p>\n
He has also been involved in campaigns for LGBTIQA+ discrimination protections, family and relationship recognition, improvements in education, health and the police force, anti-suicide and anti-poverty measures, and blood donation.<\/p>\n
He is currently a spokesperson for national LGBTIQA+ advocacy organisation, Just.Equal Australia.<\/p>\n
In 2003, Rodney was made a Member of the Order of Australia and in 2015 he was named Tasmanian Australian of the Year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very honoured and excited to have Rodney join us for our end-of-year gathering,\u201d said Belinda Brain, one of the organisers of the Birds of a Feather lunches.<\/p>\n
\u201cRodney has made many personal sacrifices in campaigning for equal rights and his fight against discrimination has helped change the lives of people across the whole of Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event takes place on Friday December 9 at the Kyneton Bowls Club from 12pm \u2013 2pm.<\/p>\n
The Birds of a Feather lunches are held quarterly in venues across the Macedon Ranges.<\/p>\n
Organised by Sunbury and Cobaw\u2019s Country LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Program, they offer an opportunity for adults who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex to come together, hear from engaging guest speakers and share stories.<\/p>\n
