Fresh life was injected into the 2024 Riddell District women’s football competition when Kyneton and Macedon played a draw on Saturday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Previously unbeaten all last season and so far this season, Kyneton’s impressive winning streak ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Overall, the match at the Showgrounds was played in great spirit, with both teams giving their all, and the tied score seemed a somewhat fitting result between the two current best sides in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Played in icy conditions, the well contested match took place with both clubs keen to produce their best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Captain Teagan Ainslie starred again for the Tigers, working hard with Belinda Hateley in the ruck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Elisa Coutts debuted for Kyneton with a week off from the Pioneers and had an impact around the stoppages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The lead changed several times, and Charlotte Noon’s three first half goals gave the Cats a lead of eight points at the long interval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Kyneton coach Phil Hawkes made positional moves to bolster the defence, and this kept Macedon goal-less in the second half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Two goals to Roberts in the second half lifted Kyneton’s hopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


By siren time it was Kyneton 5.2 (32) drew with Macedon 4.8 (32).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LANCEFIELD’S FIRST WIN<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

History was made on Friday night at Romsey when the recently formed Lancefield team scored its first victory. There was huge excitement in the Tigers’ camp as their players persisted and worked their way to a 3.7 (25) to 1.2 (8) margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The first half was very even, and Lancefield then gradually seized overall control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


From humble beginnings, with only a few players at training, the side has grown in confidence under coach Chris Clifton and assistant Cash Ferguson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The words ‘courage’, ‘determination’ and ‘teamwork’ are the key words adopted by the Tigers in their sense of unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This victory is expected to generate more resolve, and the inclusion of some netballer\/footballers has given the side more depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goals for the Tigers came from Emma Hensley 2, Meridith Johnson, and Paris Keogh-Beacon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Best were Emily Baldwin, Johnson, Lou Napolitano, Lil Waters, Tash Ross-Harris and Ursula van Dyk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In the remaining women’s match at the weekend, Mount Alexander Falcons scored a goal in each quarter at Hepburn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
