Romsey residents are seeking action to clean up Five Mile Creek and improve the surrounding area for passive recreation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A masterplan for the creek includes a vision for the reserve as well as a series of initiatives such as pathway extensions, environmental improvements, signage and passive recreation infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents have reported willows and fallen tree limbs in waterways collecting garbage and leaf litter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Melbourne Water’s executive general manager of service delivery, Sue Jackman, said maintenance works were last carried out in November this year, which involved weed control of invasive species and maintenance of existing plantings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMelbourne Water is undertaking a capital works project and ongoing maintenance to improve the condition of Five Mile Creek,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe works being carried out are in line with the Romsey Five Mile Creek Masterplan which includes new spaces for amenity and recreation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe works involve removal of invasive species such as willow, pine, and blackberry, and planting of native trees and shrubs to improve water quality and support native animals, birds, and insects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
