As the Winter Solstice approaches, the Macedon and Mount Macedon Landcare Group has been preparing to launch a visionary plan for the restoration of local waterways on the southern slopes of Mount Macedon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe worked with our landcare facilitator to identify seven stretches of local creeks for regeneration, that will help wildlife move, feed and breed across the area, and improve water quality for the whole Maribyrnong River,” said Kate Lawrence, MMMLG president. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\u2019ve written a brochure that explains the lay of the land and the waterways, the threats and challenges facing them and how as a community we can make a real difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\u2019ve also commissioned a strategy report from ecologist Geordie Scott-Walker, which goes into detail about the mountain environment and each stretch of creek, and we\u2019re inviting the local community to a Winter Solstice celebration to launch both!” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event on June 19 will provide a unique opportunity for the community to come together, learn about the local environment and to be part of a collective effort to create a shared vision to protect the lands, waterways and wildlife of the Macedon region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three speakers will lead discussions \u2013 Tori Vincent from Melbourne Water, Geordie Scott Walker and Kate Lawrence. They will be followed by a Q&A session and conversations over supper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
