Kyneton Cricket Club dates back to 1855, and last season many locals and outsiders found it hard to believe the club was unable to field a senior men’s team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Well, things are about to chance in the 2025-26 season with new president Dan May at the helm, aided by a small and very keen group of cricket enthusiasts on the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We’re poised for a big season, with expanded playing opportunities, vital facility upgrades, and new initiatives to strength community involvement,” May told the Express<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Gisborne District Cricket Association has confidence that Kyneton will make a major step forward in 2025-26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The president said for a town Kyneton’s size there was a general expectation there would be a strong cricket club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This season the committee plans to have a senior men’s team, under age teams, a girls’ team and most likely a women’s team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “We’re focused on creating more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play cricket with Kyneton … and that includes welcoming women of all experience levels into our senior program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “If you’ve ever thought about giving cricket a go, now’s the perfect time,” May said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In recent seasons Kyneton has had some very talented junior players, but several have gone to other clubs which offer higher levels, right through to McIntyre Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Overall the club is looking at a senior men’s team, an Under 17s side, possibly two under 15s boys, and under 15s and under 13s girls’ teams. Last season the U13 girls excelled on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ryan Hensley is vice-president and treasurer, Lucas and Kylie Arnup are coaching and coordinating some of the teams. Amanda May is the new secretary, Simon Dundas \u2014 from Mia Mia \u2014 brings his talents as a proven player, and Mick Garrigan is playing his role as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The senior men’s side is ideal for juniors wishing to make the step up to senior ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Later in the season the club’s popular Woolworths Blast program for youngsters will run over eight weeks \u2014 volunteers are being sought to help with this program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n KCC will welcome back any former players who would like to join the ranks …. and maybe there’s a couple of quality players just looking for a positive, ambitious club to join and enjoy their favourite sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Upgrading the top oval wicket and nets has been a priority since safety issues were identified last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Training is not far away, and Dan May assures everyone a warm welcome awaits as KCC looks to improve overall, and make a name for itself in the GDCA.
