Liberal MP for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell spoke in parliament last week asking that the Minister for Environment fund construction of new on-site parking at Expedition Pass Reservoir in the 2026-27 state budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mount Alexander Shire Council has identified a location for building a new car park on Parks Victoria land on Llewellyn Road, Chewton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parks Victoria has confirmed to the council it is open to putting a car park on this site, butdid not have funds for construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Lovell noted that Expedition Pass Reservoir is a popular waterway, especially for families who want to go swimming on hot days, but said the current lack of parking meant cars were often packed along the roadside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This poses a safety risk for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians walking from their cars to the water,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Labor government is currently focused on improving the safety of the dam structure and his invested $6.42 million for the project as part of the Safer Public Dams program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the coming months a number of on-site investigations are planned, including survey and geotechnical investigations. These investigations will help to inform final design options for the upgrade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Victorian Government spokesperson said they were prioritising the 150-year-old reservoir to protect communities, safeguard homes and keep the treasured park open for everyone to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
