Footy legend Nathan Thompson is taking over coaching Kyneton’s senior football team next season.
\nThis follows on from the retirement of Luke Beattie who is stepping down from the coaching role after five years, four of which saw the Tigers compete in the finals.
\nBoth played for the Tigers this season. Thompson came out for six matches and Beattie fronted, and booted numerous goals, as playing coach.
\nClub president Karen O’Sullivan said Beattie had done an amazing job with the club, putting in “above and beyond”.
\nShe also welcomed Thompson as coach describing him as a “home-grown role model”.
\nHe’ll also continue to coach the club’s under 18 side.
\nO’Sullivan said there were a few main contenders for the senior coaching role.
\n“The calibre was pretty even in regards to who we were looking at,” she said.
\nIt’s the second time Thompson has coached Kyneton. He was playing co-coach along with Derrick Filo in 2012.
\nThis is also O’Sullivan’s last season as club president, a role she has had for two years following on from being the club’s vice- president and a total of seven years on Kyneton’s executive.
\nShe said she was pleased to leave the role with the club looking better financially.
\n“Financially we’re well on track for budget,” she said.
\nShe said the club’s fundraising this year had been a success and helped boost the funds needed to get them out of debt. The club’s auction night for example raised a massive $50,000.
\n“I’m confident that I’m leaving the club in a good space,” she said.
\n“I’ve been supported really well, particularity over the past two years.”
\nThe club is now looking for some new people, including those to fill major roles, to help spread the workload.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
