A Woodend man had to be cut from his vehicle following a high-speed crash at Carlsruhe on Saturday.
\nEmergency services were called to the scene on Cobb and Co Road about 4pm, after the driver lost control of his vehicle and crossed to the wrong side of the road, rolling several times and landing in an embankment.
\nThe man, aged in his 30s, was freed by members of Woodend SES with assistance from Woodend and Carlsruhe Fire Brigades.
\nThe driver was conscious and alert but suffered a head injury and cuts and abrasions to his upper body and was taken by ambulance to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
\nThe road was closed for about two hours.
\nPolice are investigating speed and alcohol as possible contributing factors.
\nLeading Senior Constable Peter Wall of the Macedon Ranges Highway Patrol warned drivers that police would be increasing their presence on the roads coming into the holiday season.
