Renowned French street artist JR is preparing to make his mark on Castlemaine, inviting Mount Alexander Shire residents to participate in a global large-format outdoor art project.
\nThe Inside Out Castlemaine <\/i>project encourages locals to share a large black and white self-portrait photograph that makes a statement about who they are and what they stand for, capturing hope and community at this unique point in time.
\nCastlemaine State Festival will facilitate the project locally with portraits publicly displayed during the festival set for March 19 – April 4, 2021.
\nEach photo is sent to the project team, archived and exhibited online.
\nSo far more than 260,000 people have participated in the global art event across 129 countries.
\nFestival director Glyn Roberts said the project’s goal was to create a large-scale public art event to bring the community together.
\n”This huge event will put central Victoria’s creative capital of Castlemaine on the map, providing insight into our community to curious art lovers across the globe as well as locally,” Mr Roberts said.
\n“This year has been a strange event in itself, and to capture our hope, our anxieties and our soul through simple black and white portraiture will serve as a snap-shot of the now and the newest generations who will be taking us all into the future.”
\nIn preparation for Inside Out Castlemaine<\/i>, local photographer Jodie Hutchinson will host free online photography workshops for local families with toddlers, and adults of all ages, over two weekends in December.
