Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal is looking forward to again partnering with the Castlemaine Documentary Film Festival on a screening tomorrow of must-see feature-length doco, <\/b><\/i>Brazen Hussies<\/i>.
\nThe film shows us how a daring and diverse group of women joined forces to defy the status quo, demand equality and create profound social change – contributing to one of the greatest social movements of the 20th Century. The film interweaves freshly uncovered archival footage, personal photographs, memorabilia and lively accounts from the bold women who reignited the feminist movement in Australia, at times at great personal cost.
\nIt is fitting the screening should take place during the Mount Alexander Family Violence Prevention Network’s 16 days of activism.
\nFirst-time director Catherine Dwyer was inspired to make a film about the history of the Women’s Movement in Australia through her experience working as associate producer – post production, researcher and assistant editor on Mary Dore’s acclaimed documentary She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry<\/i> (2014) – the story of the US Women’s Liberation Movement.
