Two children were injured in a dramatic incident at school drop off at Candlebark School in Kerrie this morning.
\nA Romsey mother had stopped her car outside the school with her four young children on board about 8.35am. She got out of the vehicle to help the children out when the car began rolling backwards down a steep incline.<\/p>\n
The 43-year-old woman tried unsuccessfully to get back into the car as it rolled and was thrown clear. The vehicle rolled 40 metres backwards down an embankment and crashed into a large tree.
\nThe two youngest children, aged three and five, were uninjured, while a six-year-old boy suffered an arm injury – possibly a broken arm – and was taken by ambulance to Royal Children’s Hospital.<\/p>\n
A seven-year-old boy sustained a broken leg or hip and was taken by ambulance to Romsey football oval and airlifted to RCH.
\nThe mother was uninjured but distraught.
\nLeading Senior Constable Peter Wall of the Macedon Ranges Highway Patrol said all of the children were in their appropriate seats with their seatbelts on.<\/p>\n
“There were a lot of other children, parents and school staff present who witnessed the incident and assisted at the scene until emergency services arrived,” LSC Wall said.
